Seguin Chick-fil-a Executive Summary/ Products & Services Repost

On-Campus Chick-fil-a Executive Summary

Anna Trevino and McKenzie Sells

There is no history of a Chick-Fil-A being in Seguin, TX, and with Texas Lutheran University being such a big attraction to Seguin, a Chick-Fil-a would influence the community relationships and economy within the campus and outside. The population of TLU is growing and in need of a variety of dining options on campus, besides Lucky's and Hein Dining Hall.  Our mission is to bring a variety of fast food to Seguin, Tx, specifically Chick-Fil-A to TLU, and our vision is to see Chick-Fil-A come and bring the community and the student population together.
We began by creating a survey and we posted the survey on Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter so anyone could voluntarily let us know what they think about a Chick-fil-a closer to them,. as well as contacting the mayor of Seguin. We believe asking the student population of TLU what they wish to have will be beneficial for us in order to bring in a variety of business. The result that we plan on achieving is having a new Chick-fil-a restaurant open on the TLU campus to provide their product and service to its students, visitors, and residents of Seguin. We got 68 responses to the survey, where 99% of the voters chose yes to having a Chick-fil-a in Seguin. We want to make sure this restaurant is accessible to both students and residents to Seguin as well, so they do not have to drive as far for the same meal, and also to foster relationship with students.

As far as funding goes we hope to receive donations from the city of Seguin, TLU donors, TLU Alumni. If it gets approved then Chick-Fil-A will finance their own franchise.
It is our mission to gather the TLU community and get people involved in campus activities to establish relationships and create diversity through increased food options at Texas Lutheran.
Adding a popular restaurant at the university helps the funding of school activities, provided by community residents who would likely come to campus to eat their food alongside students. We are students who knows the needs of other students and what we want and want we don’t want is taking an hour trip just to grab something to eat. These strengths provide revenue to the school, a variety of food for both students and residents, an increased opportunities to gather the community around good food.
Here is the data from our survey that shows how much students want this option and how often they go out of their way to eat it now.

Products, Programs and Services

Our organization is about promoting and rallying the citizens of Seguin as well as the corporation of Chick-fil-a in order to bring a future Chick-fil-a to the town, by creating a survey and identifying benefits of having an establishment like this in Seguin. Also, we are interested in seeing what it will do for the local community, including residents, students, and visitors to Seguin. We know that having a local and interactive business in a close community such as Seguin, is only beneficial and rewarding for the community.
If we succeed, we want to bring in more restaurants to Seguin in the future, providing an enhanced eating experience for anyone who wishes for more options in dining, especially since we will be well known and have established connections with the community. For quite a while, students at Texas Lutheran have longed for a closer Chick-fil-a than New Braunfels, so there is no doubt this business with succeed.
We will be satisfying the need of many Seguin residents and students, as well as making a difference in the community. Chick-fil-a gets the community involved in events, sponsorships, donating food, fundraisers, offering scholarships and events events like Daddy-Daughter Date Night. We hope that if this Chick-fil-a gets approved it will continue to make a positive change and impact on the community and customers. It is a great opportunity for the community to really grow like it does and be even more proud to live in Seguin.
Having to drive so far just to grab a bite to eat is inconvenient, and it takes the students away from attending events around campus or within the community. Students would appreciate a short drive or even a walk to go eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This would be a closer and safer walk compared to Whataburger and McDonalds. Chick-Fil-A would especially be a much healthier meal than the food served in Luckys or surrounding restaurants and health is very important these days.

Seguin Chick-fil-a Op-ed

Chick-fil-a, New in Town
By Mackenzie Sells & Anna Trevino
Article Launched: 1/12/2018

Around the Seguin area there isn't much to do that gets the community involved, at least not like Chick-Fil-A does. There are a lot of kids who go home and don’t have anything to do, no one to play with or talk to. But if a Chick-Fil-A was right down the road those kids can go play and begin new relationships with their neighbors. This can especially happen when Chick-Fil-A hosts events that bring families together and helping to create a bond with fellow neighbors. We believe that a restaurant can and in fact will change a community for the better. Because this is not a restaurant that only cares about making money. It is a restaurant that cares about their community and wants to see their community thrive.

There are some people that would argue bringing a Chick-Fil-A to Seguin would not make any difference. But those are people who do not care for the growth of their community, they do not want to see their community become a home. There will be a staff of workers who love their job, are treating fairly, receive benefits and enjoy helping others. This will also be a safe place to go and a place to work on homework. There are nothing but positive outcomes from bringing a restaurant such as Chick-Fil-A to Seguin, and we can not wait to watch that happen.

Seguin Chick-fil-a Pitch Letter

February 12, 2018
Dear Kati Waxler,
Ready for Chick-fil-a in Seguin, Texas? It’s finally here.
Your readers would appreciate knowing about an upcoming event at Texas Lutheran University, called Bulldogs Give Back which is a combined effort of TLU’s Center for Servant Leadership, and Chick-fil-a to provide quality meals to those ready for more choices as well as providing service to those in need in our own town. We’ll arrange for student and non-student volunteers to help out around Seguin, working with any charitable organization that needs the labor, whether it be physical or emotional. After a day of hard work, volunteers will be rewarded with the first of many fresh, hot meals at the newest Chick-fil-a within 15 miles of downtown Seguin.
We are striving to serve our community and celebrate our oneness as residents of Seguin and students of TLU, and we invite anyone and everyone to work hard together and share a meal, just like family.

Sincerely,
Anna Trevino, Mackenzie Sells

S.M.A.R.T. University Op-Ed: The Failings of the Texas Special Education System

The Failings of the Texas Special Education System
With special needs being our main focus for our non-profit, we wanted to look at and research the ways schools are failing special needs kids. The main issue in not that a school lacks a special needs program, but rather is breaking laws by not following guidelines that are required. In the Texas Tribune, it states that “A U.S. Department of Education investigation concluded that Texas violated federal law by failing to ensure students with disabilities were properly evaluated and provided with adequate public education.” What they are saying is that students had not been evaluated as they should and then been given a proper education.
By failing to do these very things, they broke the law by now allowing students to receive support under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. That act was made to ensure that students with such disabilities are provided with the proper education that is made to fit their individual needs. By failing to evaluate and determine what needs students met, they failed to provide an education to those that needed something just a little bit more than just basic education.
In another Daily News article, Texas has been found guilty of doing interventions with special needs children as opposed to providing them with services when said children were thought to have a disability. According to the article, “the department found some school districts “took actions specifically designed to decrease the identification of children for special education” and the Texas Education Agency ‘failed to fulfill its general supervisory and monitoring responsibilities.’” In other words, the school system failed the students that needed them the most.
An appalling article we found from the Houston Chronicle stated that when “The Texas Education Agency has determined that they had too many students in special needs education, the administrators announced, and they had come up with a plan: Remove as many kids as possible.” How is this possible? How is the first response to such an issue is to kick out the children these programs were created for? According to the article “the Laredo Independent School District purged its rolls, discharging nearly a third of its special education students...more than 700 children were forced out of special education and moved back into regular education.” These children were in the special education for a reason because they needed that extra help and by pushing them back into regular education hurts not only them but also their future. They won’t get the extra help they need and they won’t be able to do as well as compared if they had been able to stay in special education and it’s going to have a direct result on their future.
At S.M.A.R.T. University, we will be able to give them the very thing that these Texas schools and educations department have been failing to do, which is give them the proper education and needs that are tailored to fit their specific disability. We will be able help them in ways they could not be helped before. There has always been serious lack of faith in the overall education system in Texas, but this non-profit that we have created could really benefit these children and help them be successful in life and in their future.

San Antonio Express-News
March 27th, 2018

Mr. Stockwell,
During your latest comments regarding The Express, you mentioned your numbers have been steadily falling. That is due in part to the steady rise of technology, but a portion is, like you mentioned, The Express’ lack of new content concerning our city. I’d like to offer a part of the solution. We have an exciting Grand Opening that will be sure to revitalize the community and challenge our thoughts about minorities.
I represent S.M.A.R.T. University, which is a new organization committed to changing the reality for those with intellectual disabilities in the San Antonio area. We are focusing on training our participants with the goal to place them in jobs in our community where they can be contributing and self providing members of society. San Antonio will be excited to hear about what we are hoping to do for our economy and our society. I invite you to spread the word.
Our Grand Opening is Saturday, April 14th at our BRAND NEW facility located in Universal City. This is a family event where people of all walks and ages can come learn about what we are doing. This is especially important for families of intellectually disabled individuals because that are able to come see what kind of programs we offer their children. We will have games, food, tours, and even hands on examples of some of our trainings. Fun and educational for the whole family!

I thank you for your consideration of this event,
Kara Peterson

Op-Ed Blog Post: Seguin Youth Center

The number of youth between ages 5-18 in Seguin is 7,379. Where do all of these kids go after school, or during the weekend when their parents are working? There aren’t a lot of safe places for youth to go and hang out in Seguin. The options are limited, but that is where the Seguin Youth Center will come in. Seguin Youth Center’s goal is to provide a safe space for kids to learn, grow, and have fun. Some of the youth programs in Seguin are exclusive so the Seguin Youth Center will be a great place for everyone to feel included. Seguin Youth Center has many goals and plans for the future. We plan on expanding our classrooms and adding more classes for kids to participate in. We also plan on having family night, talent shows, game nights, and dances to bring more awareness and help raise money for our non-profit.
Some may argue that Seguin does not need a youth center, but Seguin Youth Center would beg to differ. Seguin Youth Center will provide a safe atmosphere for kids to learn, hang out with friends, and grow.  We will ensure this by having staff lead and watch over the kids, we welcome all youth to encourage their friends to come or make new friends at the center, and we plan on helping the youth grow by offering classes to help them learn more. Seguin Youth Center is something for the whole family. Parents wont have to worry about where their kids are or what they’re doing, and kids will be having fun.

Op-ed Blog Post: Hydration for Haiti

Niccola Pelicano, Emma Taylor, Aubrey Muegge, Lauren Riley

On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti with devastating consequences. The epicenter was located 15 miles WSW of Port-Au-Prince. Since then, there have been 59 aftershocks from the initial quake. Several of these aftershocks were nearly as devastating as the first hit with some ranging from 4.2 to 5.9 magnitude in strength. Clean drinking water became harder and harder to find for the families affected by the earthquake. Many non-profits, such as Poured Out and The Water Project, have made huge attempts at bringing the clean water back to the Haitians. Non-profits come and go, but the citizens of Haiti are still left searching for clean water for their families.
The people of Haiti often resort to gathering water from polluted rivers to get the water their families for their daily needs, including cooking and drinking water. In addition, Haiti does not have a great plumbing system and all of their waste is going into these same rivers. The water is contaminated with waterborne illnesses, such as typhoid, cholera, and chronic diarrhea, which causes more than half of the deaths in this country every year.
There also remains the struggle of access to lean water through the ongoing fight to property rights given extremely weak registry, judicial capacity, and corruption throughout the country. Without the property rights that the citizens need, they cannot dig wells or access the clean water they need to survive. Having property rights restored would solve many of these issues, including improving the government, as well as saving s many lives.

Hydration for Haiti is devoting all of their time and resources that are funded by the community to help with this crisis that has been affecting the families living in Haiti after the devastating storm took away what limited resources Haiti had. Nonprofits my come and go, but Hydration for Haiti is dedicated to helping those in need for as long as they need us.

“The universal language meets the foundation of life,”
ZILKER PARK AUSTIN, TEXAS (2pm - 9pm on July 9, 2018)- All humans are fluent in the universal language of music; the melodies that rush through our veins generating the tapping of the foot or self-expression of dancing if you don’t hold back your inner quirkiness. For centuries, all cultures and races have used music for connecting the community together, so we were determined to orchestrate an organization that would make an impact on international struggles.

Op-Ed - Decades Drive-in

The Revival of the Drive-In
On a typical Friday night in Seguin, there is not much to do locally. Options are incredibly limited, and many young people often feel bored with the constant ennui of Seguin nightlife. However, Decades Drive-In theater is attempting to change this and revive Seguin’s lackluster nightlife not only for young people, but people of all ages. Drive-in theaters are hard to come by in today’s world, so this slice of nostalgia will attract those who miss the drive-ins of the past and those who want to experience one for the first time.  Decades Drive-In would provide a necessary boost to the entertainment sector of Seguin and provide quality entertainment to locals while also attracting people from surrounding areas. The Decades Drive-In Nonprofit already has many wonderful plans for the drive-in theater, such as themed movie nights and car shows.
Although some may argue that Seguin is not in need of another movie theater, Decades Drive-In would be so much more than the typical inside movie experience. Drive-ins allow for an atmosphere of leisure and engagement which the confines of inside theaters cannot offer. It would be a refreshing new entertainment hotspot in Seguin that provides safe fun for people of all ages in Seguin, and especially the large population of youths. Decades Drive-In would fill the hole in Seguin’s current nightlife as an outlet for the desire for wholesome family entertainment as well as a modern touch on a prolific piece of pre-twentieth-first century pop culture. Our drive-in is something that could be enjoyed for years to come for all members of this and surrounding communities.
