Decades Drive-In Executive Summary

As one of the most family-oriented and hospitable areas Texas has to offer, the City of Seguin has an obligation to provide a wholesome and beneficial environment in which its citizens can live and thrive. While Seguin remains a tight-knit and friendly community, the entertainment sphere for the people of Seguin could use ample improvement. Those of all ages would agree that Seguin’s variety of town entertainment is sparse at best. This is why we at the Decades Drive-In Nonprofit feel it wholly necessary to begin the movement to bring a drive-in theater to the Seguin area. We seek to improve the quality of entertainment in Seguin and surrounding areas for all ages at a low cost.

Our team, a group of Texas Lutheran University students, is dedicated to improving Seguin not only for younger citizens, but those of all ages. The nostalgic drive-in theater, best known before the turn of the century, appeals to those of all ages and can provide a fun, family-inclined setting for community engagement. We at Decades Drive-In Nonprofit feel that younger members of the Seguin community should be able to experience the drive-in movie theater ambiance while older members of the Seguin community can relive the touching nostalgia of a drive-in.

In order to provide this nostalgic form of entertainment to those in Seguin, Decades Drive-In Nonprofit will begin a campaign to increase funding, awareness, and community involvement in the creation of this theater. As far as funding, Decades Drive-In plans to involve larger food companies to invest in Decades Drive-In by first aiding in initial building and maintenance costs and providing concessions and receive, in return, a percentage of profits the drive-in garners. Fast food restaurants in the Seguin area will have the opportunity to take part in this process. Decades Drive-In also plans to take out bank loans to aid in initial costs. Said funds, both from food companies and bank loans will be applied against the cost of land, screens, projection equipment, and construction costs.

Decades Drive-In Nonprofit is a joint-owned nonprofit, and its team-oriented approach remains vital to its core beliefs that coming together is one of the most crucial aspects of any group or community.

  1. I love this idea, it sounds like a lot of fun! My only question is, what's going to set it apart from the one in New Braunfels?

  2. This is such a great idea! I believe that this is a great way to get the community together, especially if the Drive-In has one night every week where there is some event to entice more people to come. Since Seguin is much smaller than New Braunfels I think that this will create a more diverse and connected community.
I like how y'all included how y'all hope to fund this theatre, taking out personal loans and creating events and community involvement for funding, without just asking people like most nonprofits do.

  3. I like this idea a lot and would love to have this in Seguin! However, you should consider how to convince people to come to this when they could just go to King Ranger which would probably be closer, more convenient, and possibly cheaper.

  4. I like the idea of a drive in theater! However some people will probably not take to it as easily. Think about it: many people who live close to the drive in theater would probably complain of noise pollution. You'd have to be very careful where you put it

  5. I used to love going to the drive-in! But that's the thing, I stopped going. Drive-ins all around the United States are shutting or are barely hanging on as it is. How are you going to convince people to actually leave their homes what with the rise of Netflix and relatively more convenient movie-watching experiences as a whole?

  6. I love the idea personally. But my only issue would be the matter of funding. If you are proposing this to a potential sponsor, you need proof that this will be successful. They won't care if they get "a portion of the profits" if only 10 people show up. So just give us more proof of a need.

  7. I do think this is a interesting idea as well, sadly I've never actually been to a drive-in before but I'd love to try it so you'd definitely have at least one customer! I really like the idea of partnering with local fast-food joints, you could even have them come and sell food and snacks at the drive-in, then you wouldn't have to provide a snack counter. They could also have special location food or bring back old recipes people can only get at your drive-in the food would definitely be a draw in.

  9. This is a great idea and well written. Although there is a drive in just about 30 minutes away in New Braunfels which may create some competition; something to think about. Maybe make a food truck park to add something new and trendy to this particular drive-in.
