S.W.W.M.F.

S.W.W.M.F. Executive Summary

Anna Trevino, McKenzie Sells, Dakota Timmerman

We are a nonprofit organization called Students Who Wants More Food. There is no history of a Chick-Fil-A being in Seguin, TX, but the population is growing and in need of a variety of restaurants.  Our mission is to bring a variety of fast food to Seguin, Tx, specifically Chick-Fil-A, and our vision is to see Chick-Fil-A come and bringing community involvement, helping Seguin businesses grow and be able to serve the community.
We began by creating a survey and contacting fellow students to share what they think, as well as contacting the mayor of Seguin, and board of city planning. We believe asking the community what they think will work or what they want to will be beneficial in order to bring in a variety of business.
The result that we plan on achieving is having a new Chick-fil-a restaurant open in the city limits of Seguin to provide their product and service to its residents and visitors.
Asking for donations, especially from the city of Seguin. If it gets approved then Chick-Fil-A will finance their own franchise.
It is our mission to gather the community and get people involved in activities to establish relationships and create diversity through increased food options throughout Seguin.
Getting people involved in the community, helps the economy of Seguin, inviting other people to Seguin, and creating jobs. We are students who knows the needs of other students and what we want, instead of driving to fulfill that. All of these strengths provide income to families, a variety of food, and getting the community together.

We created a survey that asked several questions to help us see if Chick-fil-a would be a good fit for Seguin. We got 68 responses to the survey, where 99% of the voters chose yes to having a Chick-fil-a in Seguin.

  1. My only concern is that you're polling TLU students and they don't even make up half of the Seguin population. Also, if you're relying on donations, students aren't going to donate. Just something to think about!

  2. I'd love to have a Chick-Fil-A up here, but you have to think of some of the counterarguments to building one. For one, their ownership is notoriously homophobic, albeit not as openly as it once was, but this will still raise red flags with some people in the community, especially if they're LGBTIQ

  3. You said you received 68 responses to the survey, but how many people did you ask? Is this representative of all University students, surveys spread out randomly, or did you only ask a particular group among the students (athletes, choir, a specific fraternity, etc.)? How do you plan to get people's support, and what form will that support take? Marching on the streets outside the Mayor's office? (I'm trying to be funny, but I'm not sure if that's clear...)

  4. I love that you actually went out and collected your own real data. It makes your plan more credible. I do however, agree with the previous few comments that the data may not be entirely representative of the whole population of Seguin.

  5. Same as the rest 68 TLU students might not be a convincing or accurate group sample for all of Seguin.

  6. I know how hard it is to keep restaurants open in Seguin, however I do think a Chick-Fil-A could hold its own here on account of how popular it is. One idea I had is that you could locate it on campus. Something like Lucky's and Subconnection. Since you only served TLU students and it would most likely cost Chick-Fil-A less to come here if they didn't have to build a sight and they would always have students lining up to work there.

  7. This is a good idea. Is there supposed to be an "s" at the end of "wants" in "Students Who Wants More Food"? Incorporating students like Emma said is something i would expect from the name of the non-profit as well. At least a student discount if you cant get them on campus.

  8. First of all, I'm 100% on board for a Chik-Fil-A. That being said, I'm left wondering by your summary what kind of community involvement you have in mind. You keep mentioning that you will bring the community together and get people involved but I'm not sure how bringing a Chik-Fil-A to Seguin will do that.
